The Best PVE Weapons in Destiny 2

The Best PVE Weapons in Destiny 2

Our Destiny 2 Best PVE Weapons list takes a look at the top options to play with in the new Shadowkeep expansion! These guns are the most popular among players in the game right now. So, if you're looking to shred your enemies in Raids, Strikes, and Nightfalls then these are the ones you are going to want to have equipped. When creating this list of weapons we took a look at what most players are running when they head into the new Raids. We also look for potentially game breaking or overpowered perks that make the particular gun standout from the pack. There's always a reason these options in particular are popular, and we explain exactly why that is! April 2020 Update The Witherhoard is across the board one of the most popular weapons around right now! I'm also see a lot of Gnawing Hunger, and a whole lot of Falling Guillotine.

Best PVE Kinetic Weapons

Witherhoard

A super powerful addition to the game, another grenade launcher that is a must have if you're looking to grind out dungeons and anything else! Great AOE and direct target damage. You can fire a grenade onto the ground to land a blight AOE that will deal damage to anything inside of it. Alternatively, you can directly hit a target to deal damage to it and blight it. Once that target dies, it will drop a blight AOE on the ground. Most of the time you'll want to launch the blight onto a target, switch to another weapon, and then shred them! How-to Get It The Witherhoard is obtained via the Season of Arrivals Pass!

The Mountaintop

If you're looking for the most powerful Power weapon to have in your arsenal than this is easily at the top. The Mountaintop is an extremely strong Grenade Launcher that can dish out massive damage with a very fast reload speed. This is very much worth grabbing, the requirements for collecting this weapon were dropped in a patch prior to the release of Shadowkeep! While the damage is an obvious factor, the perks on this thing are pretty insane. It has the Lightweight Frame which allows you to move faster while this weapon is equipped. That gives you more ability to move around and get out of harms way. It also has Micro-Missile which basically makes it a Rocket Launcher in that it doesn't lob shots like a typical Grenade Launcher. Instead, it fires them in a straight line and the shot moves much quicker than usual. You can also reload it speedily to continue to rain down terror onto enemies. How-to Get It Unfortunately, if you don't like PVP, this is another weapon that requires it! Lord Shaxx has it available, but you'll need to reach the Fabled rank in the Crucible. As mentioned previously, it's a lot easier to gain that now in the Shadowkeep expansion.

Best PVE Energy Weapons

Gnawing Hunger

A powerful auto rifle with a variety of options via roles. This is also pairs well with the Witherhoard or Mountaintop. It has a variety of rolls that will give it a ton of stability which makes it super accurate and fire like a laser beam. It deals a ton of damage, and you can also farm it quite a bit to get the tailored roles you would like. The common ones people looking for are Steady Rounds, Arrowhead Brake, Zen Moment/Tap the Trigger, and Kill Clip

How-to Get It You can open up Umbral Engrams to obtain the Gnawing Hunger.

The Recluse

The Recluse is probably the most popular overall weapon in the game in both PVP or PVE. If you're a PVE player, you aren't going to enjoy trying to get this weapon because you need to grind away in the Competitive Crucible playlist to reach 2,100 Glory and hit Fabled. Lucky for you, the penalty for losing games in Competitive was updated recently and losses are less punishing and wins are usually worth more. While The Recluse was finally nerfed, it remains one of the top weapons in the game. You can no longer hit anywhere on an enemy after a kill for critical strikes. However, you still get improved damage after getting kills, which makes it a great weapon to slay multiple enemies with. It has the Feeding Frenzy trait which makes it so you can reload it quickly after getting a kill. The gun fires very quickly, so you will need to reload fairly often, but that's covered up by the trait. Another great factor about this gun is that it's not an Exotic, which means you can pair it with another very powerful weapon like The Mountaintop or Izanagi's Burden.

How-to Get It

As mentioned, this weapon requires a ton of PVP to obtain. Go to Lord Shaxx and pick up the From The Mouths of Babes quest. This is the 2,100 Glory you'll need to acquire, as well as a bunch of wins.

Riskrunner

If you don't want to grind The Recluse and you have an open exotic weapon slot, then the Riskrunner is a great option for you! Now that Shadowkeep is out, you can even obtain it by completing a very simple quest line. It has huge range on it, which makes it deal max damage from long distances. The big factor, however, is the Arc Conductor intrinsic perk. When you take Arc Damage, the weapon becomes more powerful and resists incoming Arc Damage. If you get more kills, the time is extended and you continue to gain that damage and resistance! You also have the Superconductor perk which when the Arc Conductor perk is active, your shots have a chance to become chain lightning which can return ammo. That means you won't be needing to reload all that often. The quest version of the weapon also comes with the Catalyst which generates Orbs on multikills! Shadowkeep in particular is great for this weapon because a majority of the enemies you fight dish out Arc damage.

How-to Get It

You can get the quest by completing the first story mission in the Shadowkeep expansion. Once you do, head over to the Tower and talk to Banshee-44 to pick it up. You might want to wait though, if you haven't reached 900 power yet the gun will be based on your current power level. After that, you just need to complete a Lost Sector, Heroic Public Event, and a Nightfall Strike! That's pretty easy for what is one of the most powerful weapons you can have in your arsenal right now.

Hard Light

Hard Light has popped back up on the radar due to its Volatile Light perk which removes damage falloff, overpenetrates targets, and ricochets rounds off of hard surfaces. The damage increases when you bounce the projectiles, which is okay in PVE, but is even better in PVP where players are hiding around corners or ducking behind cover. Another particularly nice perk is that you can cycle through the weapon's damage type. If you have a quest that requires Solar, Arc, or Void damage, you can do any of those with this weapon!

How-to Get It

It drops out of an Exotic Ingram, so you're just going to have to get lucky unfortunately!

Best Power PVE Weapons

Falling Guillotine

The Falling Guillotine can do massive damage and is great against bosses! This thing will melt high health enemies down quickly, especially if you head in with some friends and all slice up your targets. You can also customize this thing with different perks. Most people look for Whirlwind Blade which increases damage after rapidly swinging your sword around.

How-to Get It

You can open up Umbral Engrams to obtain the Falling Guillotine.

Hammerhead

Hammerhead is a great heavy weapon, and is extremely versatile because of its random rolls which can contain a whole lot of different perks. These can make it strong for taking out a ton of monsters at once, or can be used as a longer ranged weapon to snipe enemies. As mentioned, it's good because it is so versatile. You can carry multiple versions of the weapon that make it stronger in different situations. It can have the Armor-Piercing Rounds perk which gives it increased range and deals extra damage to enemies with shields. There's also Rampage, which can stack and grant increased damage when you get kills with the weapon. There's a lot of other options you can mix and match depending on what you value in a weapon.

How-to Get It

You will need to go through the Black Armory quests and obtain the Black Armory Machine Gun Frame. Grab that and complete the objectives it details and you will obtain the weapon. You can do this repeatedly if you purchase the frame from again from Ada-1.
