Apex Season 16 of Legends , "Revelry," kicks off Feb. 14. If this season has a theme, it's that developers Respawn Entertainment are looking at a four-year iteration of their popular battle royale and revisiting big image concepts, rather than offering shiny new things for already experienced players to collect and play with.

WHO'S THE NEW CHARACTER FOR SEASON 16?

For the first time, Respawn Entertainment begins the new season without an accompanying new legend for players to meet. Instead, the designers have redesigned the game's class system and given each role a unique bonus.

Characters and their new quests:

• Assault: Ash, Fuse, Mad Maggie, Bangalore, and Revenant

• Skirmisher: Pathfinder, Horizon, Octane, Valkyrie, Wraith, Mirage

• Recon: Bloodhound, Crypto, Seer, Vantage

• Controller: Caustic, Wattson, Rampart, Catalyst

• Support: Lifeline, Loba, Newcastle, Gibraltar

Respawn has given seven characters a more comprehensive rebalance. Not surprisingly, two of them are Recon characters - Bloodhound and Seer - as an effort at getting on top of a "notorious scan meta" that has been the source of some controversy in the game since Seer was introduced in August 2021.

WILL THERE BE A NEW MAP FOR APEX LEGENDS IN SEASON 16?

Also no, although the game got a huge new Battle Royale map in season 15, Broken Moon , and Respawn usually doesn't deliver a new map (Battle Royale or Arena) every season. Instead, Respawn has devoted its efforts to introducing a new game mode, Team Deathmatch , a feature long requested by the Apex Legends community .

Team deathmatch in Apex is a battle between two teams of six, in which the player chooses his legend and equipment at the beginning of the match, and revival occurs automatically after elimination, much like team deathmatch in many other popular shooters. The first team to complete 30 kills wins a round, and winning two rounds wins the match.

"That's it, pretty vanilla TDM, pretty simple," Martin Wong, game designer for Apex , said in a media preview two weeks ago. "The cards at launch will be Party Crasher, Habitat and Skull Town," Wong added, meaning that Skull Town will return (according to lore, it was destroyed) after the game's release in Season 14.

Team Deathmatch will be a time-limited mode during the first three weeks of Season 14.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE APEX LEGENDS SEASON 16 BATTLE PASS?

All players will receive a Wraith skin, 7 Apex sets, 11 weapon skins, 4 loading screens, trackers for all legends, 2 music sets, 200 Apex coins, and a season badge via a free Revelry Battle Pass.

Apex Legends players who pay for the premium battle pass will receive cosmetic rewards for Crypto, Valkyrie, Bloodhound, Mirage, and Rampart. You can see them in the Apex Legends Season 16 Combat Pass video above and in the gallery below.

NEW WEAPONS.

In Season 16, players will receive the Nemesis Energy Assault Rifle.

"It's a four-round assault rifle, and it has an automatic trigger," said designer Eric Canavese, "which means that when you hold down the trigger, it will just fire bursts as fast as it can. Also, the longer the trigger is held, the shorter the delay between packs. This mechanic of faster bursts is actually a charge that lasts briefly in the weapon even when it's not being fired, which means players can reload in the middle of bursts while still maintaining their increased speed.

There's also a new attachment, the Legendary Shotgun Bolt, which is an improvement on the existing attachments for the EVA-8, Peacekeeper and Mozambique shotguns. It also increases the rate of fire of these shotguns. The gold bonus for this attachment automatically reloads the shotgun whenever the player slides, whether the shotgun is equipped or not.
